The Roundhouse Rail Museum

Constructed between 1943–47 and officially opened in September 1947, it was Australia’s last fully enclosed steam locomotive depot and, at the time, the largest roundhouse in the Southern Hemisphere.

The building features a striking 100-foot (33 m) turntable, 42 repair bays, and housed machine shops, coal stages and de‑ashing pits for

steam-era servicing.

Today, part of the roundhouse remains a working locomotive workshop (Junee Railway Workshop), while the other half operates as a museum run by Regional Heritage Transport Association
